Here comes Lifestyle & Cooking show for all the foodies, ‘Closet to Kitchen with Nakshatra Bagwe’. It is India’s first queer lifestyle & cookery show starting from August 24th, 2019. The 10 episode show can be watched on Paramplay app & website (Paid). The first 2 episodes & all promos on YouTube are for free. This show is presented by swagdeal.in and supported by ‘Naturally Yours’ organic foods and ‘Fresh’ en Go’ perfumes.
A plate of sumptuous delicacies binds hearts, brings people together and makes you independent- all aspects that are a stepping stone for the queer community to sail through an ostracized life. Struggling with acceptance and self-identity, the fear of coming out of the closet, standing strong in the face of loneliness are some of the silver linings of this community. The effervescent fragrance of a dish prepared brings joy, the act of serving others increases the bliss in many folds, the culinary art that these people possess is surely a knight in shining armor of their lives. Cooking is indeed an exquisite talent misunderstood and lost as a basic need for masses especially for the queer community to survive an independent life.
Nakshatra Bagwe, the host, will visit homes of inspiring ‘cook/chef’ (in some cases a couple or a family) from the queer community. The participant should highlight and paint their interesting journey from ‘closet to kitchen’. The participant then will demonstrate a recipe or two for the viewers while having a casual conversation with Nakshatra Bagwe. The show will culminate with people who supported the participant in their journey of coming out or made them feel good to enjoy the food that the participant has prepared, along with a mini house party with music & dance, to celebrate their lives and identities!
The idea is to highlight the struggle and fighting spirit of the queer community and also to teach new recipes to the viewers. Different sections of the queer community from diverse class, religions, social & regional background will be taken on the board. From a professional chef to someone who had to learn cooking for the survival, from a small room in chawl to a bungalow, the struggle could be different- positive or even negative but two things stay common in all – they all want to smile and they love cooking! Along with motivating the viewers to hit the kitchen and learn cooking or new recipes, these stories will help people to come out of the closet and to be themselves.
